'Cactuar Collections - Disc Three (FFIX)' is the 3rd, final part in my trilogy of Final Fantasy 'Discs' covers albums, available now on Spotify, Bandcamp & Youtube!
Tracklist:
Run! (ft. Rik Coe)
Foolproof Love Letter Scheme
Stirring the Forest
Unforgettable Silhouette
A Song From Her Memory (ft. Federica Palazzi)
Gargan Roo
Terra / Bran Bal
Memoria
Festival of the Hunt
I'm chuffed to feature some special guests on this album; Rik Coe previously played bass in my band Luo, featuring on our first album Sleep Spindles, so it was lovely to work with him again on the bass parts for 'Run!'.
We also have my girlfriend Federica covering the vocals on 'A Song From Her Memory', delivering a near-identical rendition of Garnet's in-game vocal that fits in line with the tonality from the original version of FFIX. I'm really happy to have been able to include a version of this track on the album & wouldn't've been able to do it without her!
Full-Album Music Video
I wanted to step up the quality from my efforts for Disc One & Disc Two visually, so I've have created this full album-video featuring high-quality playthroughs of each track.
I also blended in footage of my behind-the-scenes studio clips & software sessions, as some tracks are more based on electronic production than they are instrumental parts that suit the Playthrough format.
I am really proud to present this video here for all enjoy the album visually, as well as audibly:
My full-album playthrough video for Disc Three.
Terra / Bran Bal Video:
Strangely my version of 'Terra / Bran Bal' was triggering some sort of copyright notice on Youtube (the only track from my Cactuar Collections to do so). Apparently it wouldn't've harmed my channel to use it, but I decided not to run that risk & omitted this track from the main album video edit. Kinda sucks, as I loved this track's purpose for the pacing on this album as a much-needed moment of chill.
I figured I'd share the video here below as an exclusive to my site, for anyone who may stumble upon this! I'm not sure if it works as well in isolation from the rest of the album, so maybe watch a bit of the video above for context. It does feature a nice, un-scripted cameo of my neighbour's cat in the beginning though, so there's that:
My playthrough video of 'Terra / Bran Bal' from Disc Three.
I always thought FFIX was going to be the hardest soundtrack to pick out tunes from for this project. That is still true, but these are also some of my favourite covers out of all 3 'Disc' albums and I'm really proud of the work on them.
Thanks so much to everybody who's supported me on this project journey, and if you've read all the way through to this, thanks to you, too! 🙏
I was delighted to be interviewed recently by GXM Podcast about my work on these albums; I'll be sharing that as soon as it's available, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested to hear me talk about this.
I am also working slowly on a documentary / behind-the-scenes/making-of about these albums myself for my Youtube Channel, although I'm not sure when this will come out yet.
